The Town of Ayden was presented the 2010 NC Small Town Main Street Design award on January 27th, 2011, at the North Carolina Main Street Conference held in Shelby, North Carolina. The awards jury recognized the Town for its vision and committment in the dramatic transformation of the Town's West Avenue Stage. This rehabilitation project highlights how a Town can rehabilitate similar facilities in a context sensitive and cost effective manner.
The Town worked with Benchmark CMR, Inc. to develop the concept and vision for the rehab project. Illustrations were prepared to generate excitement throughout the community for the project.
Located in southern Pitt County, the Town of Ayden is a growing community of 5,000 residents. Since its incorporation in 1891, town officials have worked over the years to see the community become a place for families to reside and for businesses to grow. The town is located 10 miles south of Greenville. Ayden's close proximity to Greenville allows the community to take advantage of offerings provided by East Carolina University (a leading University in the State), Pitt Community College (one of the fastest growing Community Colleges in the State), and Pitt Memorial Hospital (a pioneer in medical research and advancement in the Country).
